(CMR) 19-year-old Aaron Montemayor has now been charged with two breaches of COVID-19 regulations the police have revealed.
He was caught escaping from both a government ran quarantine facility and his family home after being forced to reside there after the initial breach. The two breaches occurred less than one week apart in mid-December 2020. Initially, he was housed in a government facility on his return from university but was later moved into home isolation after breaching the quarantine hotel.
Under 24-hour home security watch, he managed to escape yet again and was stopped from accessing a local gym. His second escape shocked many in the community and went viral after his 10-year-old sister took to Tik Tok to plead for his return sharing that he would be going to jail after escaping from a second-story window in the family's Prospect home.
At the time police shared that they successfully completed contact tracing. However, some persons shared with CMR that they saw him at other locations including a local nightclub sharing a smoke with others. There were also concerns with him catching a ride to the various locations. The authorities were never able to verify those stories.
The larger community was calling for him to be charged after an American teen spent the Christmas holidays in jail with her boyfriend for attending a jet ski event and breaching her quarantine.
In other quarantine news, the Cayman Brac nurse and her husband that was most recently said to have breached quarantine had their charges withdrawn.
The police also confirmed that two other quarantine cases were closed by the RCIPS investigation team after they found that no breaches were detected. One file has resulted in no charges with one file still being reviewed by the DPPs office.
