(CMR) Two police officers received minor injuries after being attacked by a woman who was apparently intoxicated as they tried to apprehend her on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway Saturday night.
Reports from the RCIPS are that just before 11 pm on Saturday, police were dispatched by the 911 Communications Centre to a report of a woman walking on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway.
The woman was said to have appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was throwing rocks at vehicles traversing the highway.
The police said they responded to the area of Safe Haven on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway, where they located the woman who reacted irrationally and showed heightened anxiety when she was approached by the officers who were in uniform.
The woman ran into the roadway towards oncoming traffic.
The officers temporarily stopped the traffic on the roadway and apprehended the woman for her safety. However, the woman became extremely hostile and assaulted the officers during their efforts, causing both officers minor injuries.
It was later discovered that the woman was in violation of her court order. She was arrested on suspicion of failing to comply with a court order and assaulting the police.
She was taken to the GT hospital for medical assessment and later safely removed to the CI Detention Centre and will appear in court later.
The police are investigating the incident.
