(CMR) Guyana's Health Ministry, under the former coalition government, bought a dildo instead of a piece of equipment to help patients with lung complications, the country's Parliament heard this week.
According to Guyana Standard Government Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo said the Ministry under the former government was so ‘incompetent’ that it bought the sex toy in error.
Dr. Mahadeo, who was making his presentation to the 2021 Budget Debate, bashed the former administration for ‘incompetence and mismanagement', Guyana Standard reported.
“There were poor procurement practices, and I say this without fear of contradiction. I do not know if plain incompetence or corruption… The Rehabilitation Department of the Ministry of Health, around 2017, requested a piece of equipment to assist persons who have lung problems. That piece of equipment can be used for persons who are in bed, like stroke patients, patients who got head injuries, and who were having problems with their lung. The request was made for a – medically correct name – medicinal chest vibrator: a medicinal equipment that is placed flat on the chest to stimulate the lungs. The then Ministry of Health bought a vibrating dildo for the department to use on patients having chest issues,” the MP said while waving the object in the House.
He also noted that the Health Ministry bought a veterinary anesthetic machine in error to be used on humans.
