(CMR) A Caymanian film writer and director will be at the helm of the production of a movie that will be featured on Netflix.
Frank E Flowers will be directing The Bluff, for which Netflix recently won a hotly contested auction, Deadline reported.
He will also be writing the script with Joe Ballarini.
According to Deadline, several streamers chased the film, and the upfront commitment for those scribes is seven figures.
The drama set in the Cayman Islands in the 1800s will feature Zoe Saldana, who plays Ercell, a Caribbean woman whose secret past is revealed when vicious buccaneers invade her island.
“The intention is to blend visceral action and historical fiction to create a real action vehicle as the heroine fights against the atrocities committed by the pirates,” Deadline said of the film.
It also reported strong roles for a second woman who is part of the vigilante campaign and the nasty lead pirate.
Saldana and Flowers previously teamed in the 2004 drama Haven.
Flowers has been busy as a writer, scripting an untitled LeBron James biopic at Universal and teaming with Terence Winter to write a movie about reggae icon Bob Marley for Paramount, Deadline said.
