(CMR) A US congressman has tested positive for the coronavirus despite receiving the two required Pfizer vaccine doses.
Congressman Stephen Lynch, who received the second dose of the vaccine earlier this month, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
Lynch, a Democrat from Massachusetts, is one of several Congress members who have tested positive for the virus following an attack on the Capitol on January 6.
It is believed that some people at the Capitol may have been exposed to the coronavirus as persons present were not wearing masks.
A spokesperson for Lynch said in a statement that the congressman received a negative COVID-19 test before attending President Joe Biden's inauguration.
The statement said Lynch was asymptomatic and will self-quarantine. He is expected to vote by proxy in Congress during the coming week.
Another member of the Massachusetts House delegation, Congresswoman Lori Trahan, also tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
