(CMR) An Atlanta teen who stole nearly $1 million from his workplace used the money to buy clothes, shoes, guns, and two cars.
Tre Brown (19) was arrested and charged last week after he stole the money from a Kroger grocery store where he was employed from December to January,
Brown reportedly stole the money over a two week period by creating 40 fake returns. Police said the returns ranged from $75 to over $87,000 for non-existent items placed on several credit cards.
Police said a large sum of the money has since been returned.
Brown reportedly totaled one of the cars, a Chevrolet Camaro, before being arrested.
An investigation was launched after corporate employees of Kroger noticed the transactions and alerted the police.
Brown stole the money while an employee tasked with flagging fraudulent transactions was on vacation, police said. A “large sum of money” was returned to the grocery chain following the teen’s arrest, but it wasn’t immediately clear Thursday how much was recovered.
