(CMR) A young boy taken to the US for treatment after dogs mauled him in Jamaica has been reunited with his family.
Mickele Allen spent approximately six weeks in the US, where he underwent several surgical procedures at the Montefiore Hospital in New York.
Mickele was the victim of a vicious dog attack in his home community of St D'Acre, St Ann, last November as he made his way home from a nearby shop.
The attack left him with major injuries to his head. His injuries were described as so severe that many thought he would not have survived.
A group of Jamaicans abroad raised over US$100,000 for Mickele to travel with his mother to the US to receive medical treatment.
Mickele, who celebrated his sixth birthday while in hospital, was reunited with his twin sister and the rest of his family earlier this week.
Shereen Grindley, Mickele's mother, said doctors had to remove a muscle from the boy's back and skin from his leg for reconstructive surgery to his head.
Grindley said she appreciated all the assistance given to her son.
