(CMR) A man who stole medals and photographs from Buckingham Palace and attempted to sell some items on eBay has been jailed.
Adamo Canto, who worked as a catering assistant, stole items, including signed photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and a photo album of US President Donald Trump's visit to the UK.
Some of the items, which ranged from £10,000 to £100, 000 were listed on eBay for sale.
Adamo pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates' Court to three counts of theft between November 11, 2019, and August 7, 2020.
During his hearing last year, the court heard that during the Covid-19 pandemic, Canto's role was changed to include more cleaning, which offered him access to offices and other areas he would not normally have access to.
Approximately 77 items were reportedly taken from the palace shop, while others were stolen from places such as staff lockers, the Queen's Gallery shop, and the Duke of York's storeroom.
Canto also admitted stealing a Companion of Bath medal, which was sold online for £350.
The stolen items included a brooch, two gold pocket watch necklaces, a limited edition Buckingham Palace pocket watch, Tiffany’s sterling pen, silk pajamas, cufflinks, and a bespoke Samsung mobile phone, manufactured for Prince Andrew.
The handset was reportedly sold to a US buyer for under £600 and is one of 65 items that have not yet been recovered.
Canto was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.
