(CMR) Four Jamaican families are mourning the loss of children after two boys and two girls drowned in three separate incidents last week.
The most recent tragedy occurred yesterday (Saturday) after two girls swimming in the Black River in St Elizabeth were swept away by strong currents.
The body of one of the girls was found Sunday morning. The body of 13-year-old Gabrielle Madden, a Christiana High School student, was pulled from the river about 9 a.m by local divers and the Jamaica Defence Force personnel.
The search continues for the other girl, Sheliesha Litchmore (15), a Roger Clarke High School student in St Elizabeth.
On Wednesday, 16-year-old Kenmore Smith of Heartease, Manchester, drowned after getting into difficulties while swimming in a Manchester hotel pool.
Smith, who was staying at the hotel with his mother, was assisted from the pool and rushed to the hospital where he died.
On New Year's Eve, six-year-old Masko-Dine Foster from Frankfield, Clarendon, was among a group of unsupervised boys playing in the Rio Minho when he got into difficulties. His lifeless body was later pulled from the water.
