(CMR) Woody DaCosta, the host of Cayman Crosstalk on Rooster 101.9FM, appears to be the first high profile casualty of the acquisition of Hurley's Media by the Cayman Compass. Exclusive sources have indicated that Compass terminated the contract and the host was informed yesterday.
The acquisition deal is finalized and Merren is said to have made one final controversial act before his departure. However, the firing instructions come at the demand of Cayman Compass. The Compass has let go of numerous employees in recent times as they downsized and implemented a paywall.
DaCosta has been the host of the popular morning drive show for the past five and a half years. The termination of DaCosta came as a bit of a shock to the local community. However, what might be even more shocking is that his replacement will be none other than the sister of Compass owner, Barrie Quappe.
Quappe is set to begin hosting on Monday, January 4, 2021.
Quappe was once a host of the same program before being terminated by the previous owner of Hurley's Media, Randy Merren in 2006. She previously hosted the show from 2002 until 2006 and was brought back briefly in 2016 when Merren terminated MP Kenneth Bryan. Bryan was on the show for a brief 7 months.
Quappe revived her role in a co-host position with Woody DaCosta at that time. Barrie also hosted a TV program called Cayman Now at Cayman 27 back in 2017 before that station shut down.
CMR observed in 2017 that:
“The co-host seat appears to have a high turnover rate with past co-hosts like Jonathan Piercy, Kenneth Bryan, Barrie Quappe and now Ebanks having departed under various circumstances – all within the past 15 months.”
Woodward “Woody” DaCosta is a local Businessman with over 20 years' experience Owning, Operating and Managing several Businesses, Commercial and Condo complexes in Grand Cayman. W
He also has a Master's degree in International Business Law (LLM).
