(CMR) Caymanian footballer Joshewa Leandro Frederick-Charlery (23) has been signed by a first division football team Ngaruawahia United Association Football Club in New Zealand. His extensive football history has paid off for this amazing achievement.
The George Town premier league player was introduced to Ottawa Pro Sports Management (OPSM) sports agency in March 2020 and the right connections were made to secure him a contract which led to this amazing achievement.

Joshewa has played since 2004 for the U-13, U-15, U-17, U-21 and men’s local leagues. He has competed for Bodden Town, Cayman Athletics Sports Club and Academy football clubs.
He has also represented Cayman as a national footballer at U-20, U-23 and in the senior men’s team in Caribbean Football Union, Olympic, CONCACAF and FIFA competitions in countries such as Curaçao, Haiti and Belize as well on his own home turf. As a junior footballer, he also won several championships including the U-17 league championship.
Joshewa is a well-rounded athlete having competed in track, cricket and swimming before deciding that his love of football needed his full focus.
He holds an associate degree from Northwest Kansas Technical College where he served as captain of his college team's football team. He also competed for Longwood University in Virginia's NCAA Division 1 soccer team and was rewarded as an MVP in one of the matches whilst there.
His family has shared how proud of him they are by noting that:
“The whole family is so proud of Joshewa's persistence to pursue his dream of taking his football to another level. He has been a student of football for most of his life and now, through the work of Mackenzie Longpre and his team at Ottawa Pro Sports Management, is now realizing that dream. This is just the next step of his football journey and we have the confidence that great things will come. He wants to thank the Head Coach of Cayman’s National Team, Ben Pugh, and CIFA, for sending him to a trial in Virginia which is where the connection with OPSM happened. We're excited about this opportunity and praying that God gives him the strength to achieve greatness.”
Ngaruawahia United AFC is an association football club based in Ngāruawāhia, New Zealand. They compete in the Northern League Second Division.
Ottawa Pro Sports Management is a leading sports agency based out of Canada. They shared that:
“We are thrilled to see Joshewa take the next step in his career. We believe with the qualifications for cayman and playing constantly in New Zealand the sky is the limit for him.”
