(CMR) A four-day curfew has been imposed on May Pen, Clarendon, following a spate of murders in the parish capital.
Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang announced that the curfew would have taken effect at 5 pm Friday.
The curfew is in response to a recent spike of murders, including seven killings recorded in the parish's central section over the last 48 hours.
Two persons were killed on Wednesday night after armed men opened gunfire on patrons at a community square in May Pen, hitting four persons. Michael Henry, a taxi operator, and Evel Mitchell were killed in that incident.
Another resident of the community, Janet Mundle-Reeves (48), was shot and killed by gunmen minutes later.
At about 7:30 pm on Thursday, men shot and killed a couple walking along a roadway in Effortville. They have been identified as 54-year-old Sonia Miller Taylor and Leroy Taylor.
There is expected to be an increased police presence in the area as law enforcers work to apprehend criminals in the area.
The lockdown is expected to affect commercial activities in the town.
