What is the government going to do as the fights at John Gray High School explode this week? Kids are claiming 20-27 fights just this week alone. CMR has seen footage of close to ten of those. It appears there's some real pressure involved in taping them. The response to this has to be immediate and vigorous – the lives of our children and the future of this community is at stake. All relevant agencies must get on board:
Here are some suggestions for the government to consider:
- NO phones allowed in school – implement an immediate no phone policy. Anyone bringing one to school will have it confiscated by security at the front gate and kept in a safe area. Anyone found with a phone will be automatically suspended from school or written up
- Anyone caught instigating or starting a fight is suspended from school
- Police to follow-up with criminal prosecutions – there are some of these girls/boys who are habitual offenders and should not be permitted to continue tormenting the entire school
- Immediate meeting with all students and parents to get this issue on the table for immediate discussion
- Enroll all children in conflict resolution and mediation classes
- Call parents in too and hold them accountable for the actions of their children
- Increase security and police presence at the school
- Remove the middle and high school structure where they are no longer merged as one
- Introduce various programs including Teen Court, prison visits, regular motivational guest speakers that students can relate to, peer counseling and peer support groups within the school
