(CMR) Leaders from across the Caribbean have been sharing congratulatory messages following  news on Saturday (November 7) that Joe Biden had secured the state of Pennsylvania putting him over the 270 electoral-vote threshold required to win the White House.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for President-Elect Joe Biden and his Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.

Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley was one of the first to extend warm congratulations to the winning pair.

Mottley in a statement said, “America has spoken and the world is inspired”.

“The people and Government of Barbados warmly congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and his Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, the first woman and person of colour to hold that position,” she added.

Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness shared similar sentiments also using the occasion to highlight Harris' Jamaican heritage.

“I extend congratulations to the President-elect and Vice President-elect of the United States, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. America will have its first female Vice President in the person of Kamala Harris, and we are proud that she bears Jamaican heritage, ” said Holness in a tweet.

Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Keith Rowley also shared a message of his own nothing that he looked forward to a strengthening of  bilateral relations between the two countries.

“Prime Minister Dr the Hon Keith Rowley, on behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, extends warmest welcome and congratulations to United States President-elect @JoeBiden
and Vice President-elect @KamalaHarris,” said Rowley in a tweet.

“Given the close familial ties of both our countries and our joint economic and security connections, we look forward to the strengthening of those bonds in the months and years ahead,” he added.

Trinidad's PM also acknowledged the VP-elect's Caribbean heritage.
