(CMR) Eta on Monday (November 2) became the 12th hurricane of the 2020 season, and is expected to intensify.
The hurricane is expected to make landfall Tuesday in Nicaragua.
According to the latest update from the Miami-based National Hurricane Center, the eye of Hurricane Eta was located near latitude 14.8 North, longitude 81.5 West.
Eta was described as moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h).
According to the forecast up to 25 inches of rain could fall in Nicaragua and Honduras, with the torrential rains expected to trigger life-threatening landslides.
2020 is one of the most active hurricane seasons on record with at least 12 hurricanes it rivals 1969 (12), 2005 (15) and 2010 (12).
