(CMR) Heavy rains are in the forecast for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands as Tropical Storm Eta has formed in the Caribbean.
TS Eta is expected to produce five to 10 inches of rain across Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
“Through Thursday evening (5 Nov), Eta is expected to cause five to 10 inches of rain, with local 15-inch amounts, across Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and possibly the southern coast of Hispaniola,” said the US-based National Hurricane Center (NHC)in its 1am advisory on Sunday.
According to the NHC, the system has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometres per hour and was located 345 kilometres south of Kingston, Jamaica at 7:00 am.
Eta is expected to strengthen and will likely become a hurricane by tomorrow.
TS Eta is the 28th named storm of the 2020 season.
This the first time the name Eta has been used in the Atlantic basin.
