(CMR) Travel Cayman allows some persons into the Cayman Islands without having to go through quarantine at all it has been confirmed. Responding to a CMR media query Dr. Lee confirmed that the exception is only made “in very rare circumstances”.
The question was asked after several reports were received by residents concerned that people including “high ranking British citizens” were being allowed access without having to go through the quarantine process.
Whilst the Chief Medical Officer was unable to provide the exact number of persons who had been able to take advantage of this option CMR was informed that they only account for “a handful of instances”. CMR pressed for additional details on what constitutes a handful but has been unable to confirm any further information.
However, another person sent through information on Friday, October 23 about a private jet that F900 that came to the Cayman Islands with eight passengers aboard. The N544CM flight had all eight passengers disembark and return with only the plane's two crew members.
There is no information if these persons were exempted from quarantine or not but concerned citizens continue to speculate that private jets are giving special preferential treatment. However, airport personnel indicates that the planes are normally met by health personnel for processing.
Dr. Lee confirms that utility personal coming on the island on an emergency basis could be exempted. One category of persons that get a quarantine exemption is emergency engineers – say for example with CUC. The government indicated they are “under very strict conditions”. Their respective companies:
“cooperate fully with all the requirements set out by Public Health so the engineers interact minimally and are kept in isolation. They also have PCR tests before they arrive, on arrival, and before departing. “
