(CMR) Carnival lovers were dealt a blow on Monday (September 28) when it was revealed that Trinidad and Tobago's signature Carnival event would not be held in 2021 due to the coronavirus.
Prime Minister Keith Rowley made the announcement while was speaking at the Spotlight on the Economy forum at the Hyatt Regency .
“I see no future for Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago in the months ahead…unless there’s some dramatic change in the wind that will blow across us by Christmas, Carnival is not on,” Dr Rowley said.
Rowley noted that hosting a carnival in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic was “madness”.
“With the coronavirus still a major issue in the world around us, it is just not on,” he added.
The twin-island republic has 4,362 confirmed coronavirus cases and 71 virus-related deaths.
