(CMR) The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, has confirmed that a positive case has presented itself over the weekend as part of the government's routine screening program. All indications are that this is a “past infection that is lingering in the person's body”.
This is the first positive test in over a month in the community. There have been several others that were brought in by travels to the islands who would have been placed in immediate isolation.
Isolation was instituted around the person and so far 14 additional close contacts have been tested. The CMO further shared that there was no travel history for this person. The case will be reported to PAHO as a community acquired cases.
CMR sources indicate that the police were testing in and around night clubs over the weekend and it is believed the community transmission may be related to those. This has not been confirmed by authorities. However, suspicions were raised when police and ambulance were spotted there Friday night “shutting them down” as one person shared.
A reminder is being sent to everyone to ensure they participate in the ongoing screening test and members of the public can opt to have a free test done by booking online with the HSA. Tests are by appointment only.
