(CMR) Police are probing the circumstances under which a woman was fatally shot while waiting inside a bus that was loading passengers on Friday (August 14).
She has been identified as 58-year-old Millicent Fisher-Gunn, a supervisor of Bottom Banbury, Linstead in the parish.
Reports from the Spanish Town Police are that about 5:30 a.m., Fisher-Gunn was sitting in a parked bus when a lone gunman approached and opened gunfire hitting her to the upper body.
A man that was standing along the roadway was also shot.
Subsequently news reports surfaced in local Jamaican media that Fisher- Gunn had begun receiving death threats shortly after two of her sons, Shane and Dave, had been killed in 2018 within weeks of each other.
The source reported that Fisher-Gunn's sons were involved in criminal activity.
Shortly after Fisher-Gunn had buried both sons, she left the island for England, where she stayed for just over a year.
Fisher-Gunn returned to Jamaica to take up a job as a Transport Authority Route Inspector, as well as, spend time with her grandchildren .
However, the source said shortly after her return the death threats began again, with several drivers warned not to transport her.
“Them use to have bus man wah take them come inna Linstead by 5:00 a.m. so she use to take the bus but the bus man hear seh them threaten wen fi kill her so the bus man nuh bother take her up a morning time, them just drive pass,” a source told local media.
On the morning Fisher-Gunn died, an eyewitness to the event told local media that there was a brief interaction between the deceased and the gunman after which several shots were fired and all the passengers ran from the bus.
Gunn and the injured man were taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
