(CMR) A Jamaican hitman traveled to the Bahamas to perform a contract killing and was arrested there on Wednesday according to police reports from Grand Bahama. Bahamian authorities say the Jamaican is a known hit man affiliated with a notorious August Town, St Andrew-based gang, ‘No Dollar No Cents’.
According to the Bahamian authorities, shortly after 12 o'clock yesterday afternoon, a team of officers led an intelligence-driven operation at the Victoria Inn hotel on Midshipman Road where the reputed gangster was held.
The authorities have said that he is suspected to have entered The Bahamas for a contract killing and is said to be connected to a number of murders in Jamaica. Reports are that officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department and Rapid Response and Security Intelligence Brach in Grand Bahama executed a search warrant shortly after midnight and arrested the Jamaican, whose identity has not been made available.
Jamaican authorities are said to be working closely with the Bahamian authorities in relation to the matter.
In June, Jamaican Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson told Jamaica Observer 74 percent of all murders were gang-related. Jamaica has declared a state of public emergency in the Kingston Western and Kingston Central police divisions for 14 days, due to increased criminal activity in both divisions since the beginning of the year.
