(CMR) Several liquor license establishments have come under the watchful eye of multiple local enforcement agencies for possible lack of compliance with the COVID-19 re-opening regulations it has been confirmed by the police.
Since bars were allowed to re-open last week CMR has received continual reports of alleged breaches by Cotton Club and Mango Tree. Observers have complained that no social distancing measures appear to have been implemented or being enforced and patrons are “packed into them like sardines”.
Last week the Liquor Licensing Board had reported some breaches of license conditions after the reopening of bars and restaurants, based on numerous complaints, including some “hot spots” on the Seven Mile Beach.
Today, the police have confirmed that the RCIPS, Liquor Licensing Board, and Department of Commerce and Investment contacted Cotton Club last week with an inspection program agreed upon. A dedicated team has been set up within the RCIP to address the matter going forward.
The inspection program is a full inspection of licensed premises, which includes the Cotton Club. In last night's report, it is recorded that police visited the Cotton Club and no breaches were detected. Ongoing monitoring will be implemented and anyone suspecting a breach is advised to call 911 at the time of the incident.
Despite this, we continue to receive reports from the public that:
“Cotton Club needs to close down cause there not respecting the rules.”
Bars were able to re-open about two weeks ago as the country moved to Level 2 suppression on June 21. At this time restaurants and bars in Grand Cayman continue to be able to serve customers on any patio or other outdoor area which forms a part of the premises of the bar or restaurant. However, tables should be kept at least eight feet apart, persons at a table must be seated at least six feet apart with no person to be seated or served at an indoor counter in a bar or restaurant.
Additionally, servers and front of house staff shall wear masks or cloth face coverings while serving customers. Karaoke and dancing will not be allowed until after 19 July.
Beginning this Sunday restaurants and bars will be able to offer both indoor and outdoor services, with some social distancing restrictions.
Gyms, summer camps and vacation bible schools, all with social distance restrictions will also be able to re-open on July 5.
