(CMR) The Cayman Islands Ministry and Department of Tourism have sent out emails in the early morning hours of Friday asking for bank account details from persons who have applied for the displaced tourism employee stipend.
CMR verified the authenticity of this process after several persons contacted us to inquire if it was possible fraud.
The form had initially requested a bank statement before funds could be disbursed. However we understand that criteria has now been removed.
The form does require a person provide information as to what electoral district the applicant resides in.
It is customary to always suggest a person not click on an email link requesting bank details unless they are 100% certain that the sender is legitimate. Last week CMR informed the public that DOT had indicated they were hoping to be able to complete the initial verification process for all applicants before proceeding to disburse funds.
It now appears that the disbursement process has begun in earnest. The email advises that the link is specific to the individual applicant and so emails should not be shared or forwarded to others.
Persons are asked to complete and submit the form as quickly as possible with accurate information to expedite the payment process. The deadline for submission of banking details is 12 noon on Tuesday, 7 July 2020.
We would like to also advise the public that some persons have received the email but it may have been placed in their junk mail folder.
