(CMR) KFC in Bay Town Plaza has been closed since Monday leaving many persons wondering why the only remaining KFC location is Cayman has now closed its doors. An update shared by the company does confirm that there was an issue with a shipment of chickens in transit to them. The entire container was destroyed because of a freezer issue.
A sign on the door claims that “internal maintenance” is underway. However, a well-placed source informs us that staff has been informed that there has been some difficulty obtaining a sufficient supply of chickens in order to service their clients.

All the locations on island have been closed since March when the government forced all non-essential businesses to close because of the COVID-19 pandemic but had since re-opened. In fact, the downtown and Strand Plaza locations were open for business until last week when they also closed on Friday, June 26th.
As the only location open at the moment customers found it peculiar that they would undertake maintenance at this time.

Sources indicate that there is not enough chicken to supply the supermarkets, other restaurants and the high demand that KFC requires for cooking. Allegedly, the distributors do not necessarily have a shortage but are unable to supply the amount that KFC needs.
CMR has reached out for comment from the local KFC office as international food operators Wendy's and Pizza Hut have indicated they are filing for bankruptcy.
