(CMR) Jamaicans all across the island are reporting hazy skies due to a large dust plume across the Caribbean region.
The dust from the Sahara Desert in Africa arrived in the Caribbean on Sunday, after spending the last week over the Atlantic Ocean.
The dust has now spread to Jamaica, blanketing the sky, giving it a dark gray, hazy look.
It has also started to affect those with respiratory illnesses like asthma, with some people reporting difficulty breathing.
The dust is expected to remain over the Island for the duration of the week.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the plume was first captured on June 7, blowing west off the African continent.
The NOAA said the dry and dusty air, also known as the Saharan Air Layer, forms over the Sahara Desert during the late spring and moves westward.
The dusty air has also been reported in the eastern Caribbean and is expected to continue moving westward
