(CMR) The defunct 2016 Ready2Work program is being relaunched by the government as Caymanian unemployment numbers are set to sore to at least 19%. Over 2,700 persons have registered with government as being unemployed tourism workers.
The initiative is aimed at assisting those in the collapsed tourism industry retrain retool themselves in order take up positions in other industries.
Read2Work is an apprenticeship style on-the-job training program that encourages employers to train Caymanians whilst receiving financial assistance from the government. The aim is to provide a comprehensive training opportunity for up to six months.
McLaughlin shared that those who sign up for the Ready2Work program would receive one-on-one training in job placement, a stipend from government, counseling and other support such as childcare, and ultimately a structured pathway to employment.
He also revealed that over 10,000 people are being assisted by the Needs Assessment Unit in various ways. The Read2Work was said to assist about 100 job seekers in its first year.
