(CMR) Chief Medical Officer John Lee on Tuesday said that the Cayman Islands had recorded three new positive cases, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 73.
One of the latest confirmed cases was revealed by the CMO to be a local health care worker that was found as a result of screening and has since been placed isolation.
According to Lee, the country has completed a total of 1,335 tests which he said means that the Cayman Islands, when adjusting for population, ranks third in the world as it relates to testing.
“Our total number of tests is now thus, 1,335 and I have just done a calculation, before I stood up, and reckon that this is just over 20,000 tests per million or population, should you multiply up our population to be a million; that would mean that we rank third in some series of the world for the number of people that we have tested,” said Lee.
“ So, we’re doing well on the testing front,” added Lee.
Lee further stated that of the new positive results, one is assumed to be locally acquired but contact tracing remains ongoing.
He further shared an update that of the 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 33 are symptomatic, 24 asymptomatic and ten have recovered.
