(CMR) A social media firestorm erupted this afternoon when Wendy Ledger asked Minister of Health Dwayne Seymour about the validity of yesterday's Jacksass of the Day; which featured his wife working out with a personal trainer. The question was posed towards the end of the daily press briefing.
The Minister responded to Ledger's question by stating:
“You would have to be brave enough to ask that kind of question, I don’t know who would be that stupid”
He then followed up by sharing a parable of a donkey being ridden by a pregnant Mary. No one quite understands the relevance of the story; least of all Ledger herself. When asked rhetorically if that answered her question she responded: “not really”. When pressed for a real answer he called her stupid and the moderator, Donna Bush, suggested the question might be best asked privately.
Immediately, CMR's social media pages and Facebook erupted with comments on both sides of the spectrum. Some persons continue to support Seymour for his bible readings and religious stance during the press briefings and called Ledger disrespectful for asking the question. Others, however, have shared that it is a legitimate question that warranted a real response and not an irrelevant bible proverb.
Minister Seymour did not deny or confirm any of the details in the story. Many found this emotional response odd in light of the fact at the story went viral over the weekend. Many sought to defend Tiffany Seymour even sharing that it was her personal affair if she invited her personal trainer to work out with her.
However, many more persons were shocked at the lack of understanding of the shelter in place provisions and why anyone would think that the law does not equally apply to them.
Minister Seymour has appeared to take on a persona of a church minister during the daily COVID-19 government press briefings. However, today viewers were able to get a glimpse into his real personality, yet again, when he called Ledger stupid. Ironically, just over a week ago, Seymour was garnishing sympathy from others when he broke down in tears claiming that he was being bullied by CNS's readers who called his competencies into question.
People continue to wonder whether this minister understands the importance of freedom of speech with one reader observing:
“Is Cayman a dictatorship? I was always under the impression that it was a democratic society. I hope and pray that CMR does not let this go.”
