(CMR) Tiffany Seymour, the Minister of Health's wife is our honorable Jackass of the Day for posting an exercise video of herself with her personal trainer while her husband was in the legislative assembly trying to amend multiple pieces of legislation. For this reason, Tiffany Seymour has earned the distinction of being our Jackass of the Day!
This is a new segment highlighting persons who have complete disregard for the current shelter in place provisions and invoice non-household members into their homes for services like exercising.
The video was posted on her Instagram (IG) story on Thursday, April 23, 2020, before 2:00 pm. Tiffany appears proud of the fact that she is able to exercise with her personal trainer during the quarantine.
The workout focused on abdominal exercises and various leg raises. During the workout, her personal trainer, who was wearing a mask the entire time was observed holding her ankles for support.
Several persons have attempted to defend her after our initial Facebook post last night claiming it was an old video.
It should be noted that IG operates differently with its stories feature. Normally, Instagram stories are only available for 24 hours and pull content ONLY from the past 24 hours before IG automatically removes them.
The Instagram stories platform, since its launch in August 2016, has long been known as a real-time public timeline, all but identical to the feature of the same name developed by its competitor Snapchat.
However, in August 2017 IG added the option to add older photos from your camera roll but IG automatically pulls the time from the original pic so everyone knows it's a dated photo.
Additionally, he wore a complete black facial mask meaning this was during the currently COVID-19 climate.
Tiffany did not wear any gloves or facial coverings at all and can be seen holding his ankles for support during her leg raises. He also wore no gloves and touched her. Both were clearly not adhering to the minimum 6 foot distancing recommendations.
Today, Sunday, April 26 Tiffany took the extraordinary step of changing her privacy settings on her IG page to private. There is no indication of who was recording the video for her.
During the stay at home provisions, it is illegal to have persons outside of your household come into your home. In fact, the law states that anyone in violation of Cayman's COVID-19 provision is subject to a $1,000 and/or one-year imprisonment.
There is another serious concern that persons exercising should be aware of. Whilst exercise has been suggested to protect against COVID-19 infections because it may reduce the risk of acute respiratory distress syndrome it is also more dangerous in terms of exposure.
One study in Belgium and the Netherlands demonstrated that exercising outdoors could spread COVID-19 further through what is called slipstream. Researchers who had been working on this idea long before the coronavirus outbreak found that:
when someone is walking, running, or cycling, a vacuum or a slipstream is created, which could cause respiratory droplets to spread much farther than the prescribed six feet of social distancing.
“These droplets are very light,” Blocken said. “They will stay behind in the air and they need time to settle down. If they don’t get the time to settle down, because another person starts running behind you, the other person will simply walk through a dense cloud of droplets.”
If you are in any humid environment, it takes much longer for the droplets to evaporate.
The minister was contacted for comment but has not responded as of press time. Anyone who wants to exercise with a personal trainer in a safe manner can do so virtually has CMR has demonstrated on it's Fit Friday segments with Ricardo.
