(CMR) Jamaica has a total of 105 confirmed coronavirus cases. That's according to the latest figures released by the Minister of Health and Wellness Christopher Tufton on Tuesday.
The latest figures follow news of an outbreak of COVID-19 at a call centre in one of the countries most populous parishes, St Catherine.
Tufton reported 32 confirmed cases of coronavirus- the revelation represents the largest rise in figures in a single day, since Jamaica started reporting.
According to the health minister, the majority of new cases are linked to a business process outsourcing (BPO) company, Alorica, based in Portmore, St Catherine.
“Indeed 31 of the 32 are linked to a call centre located in the Portmore area, Alorica Intervention; this facility has a staff complement, based on the staff registry, of some 787 workers,” said Tufton.
“We have so far in our intervention – 258 individuals have been interviewed and sampled. 65 of those test have come back, and of that,33 have come back positive, two were announced two days ago,” added Tufton who noted that a senior team from his ministry had visited the facility over the weekend and the call centre was closed.
