(CMR) On Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2020, a newly acquired boat belonging to the Department of Environment ran aground in the Barkers, West Bay area severely damaging its engine. The seacraft is part of the Conservation Unit fleet of boats and is said to be a few months old.
The vessel was taken to Harbour House Marina in Prospect for repairs. Sources indicate that the Deputy Chief Marine Officer was operating the boat at the time in the barge area and ran it onto a coral head. The extend of the damage and cost is unknown at this time.
Some have expressed concerns about who is permitted to operate the government vessels and under what conditions.
DOE has not issued any statements at all about the incident.
