(CMR) Javon Seymour (23) has been charged today for dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to comply with signals from constables to stop, and breach of curfew after a high-speed police chase ended on Saturday evening with his capture. The ruling came this after from the Office of Director of Prosecution.
The incident began after numerous residents contact the police about a group of bikers causing havoc in the neighborhood around 5:00 pm on Saturday. CMR sources indicate that a group of at least five riders were in the area that afternoon causing a real disruption in the otherwise quiet area.
Multiple police vehicles, boat, and the helicopter were dispatched to the area. K9 undercover SUV A fast speed chase ensued and ended with the capture of Seymour. Seymour has a history of riding illegal bikes in the Newlands area and persons have said they have spoken to him numerous times in the past about his behavior. Apparently he lives in the area.
Neighbors have indicated they have complained for some time but people have not been able to capture him until Saturday. One annoyed resident shared that he often rides with another young man in the area whose mother worked for the government in “a top position” and this is why perhaps previous complaints had been ignored. The person shared:
“These kids have no respect for the safety and well being of anyone and would be in the public streets doing wheelies and taking other kids out with no helmets and flying up and down the roadway including over speedbumps with no concerns at all. Only a matter of time before they kill someone.”
A second rider known to the police is wanted by authorities but remains on the loose.
The Ombudsman's office has opened an investigation into how the chase was handled after Seymour crashed and was apprehended by police. A video was in wide circulation that showed an officer hitting him and becoming agitated by an onlooker who attempted to intervene with the officer during the arrest.
