(CMR) A serious single vehicular accident in the vicinity Blossom Apartments off the East-West Arterial/Spotts Newlands Road has occurred earlier this morning. A man has died as a result of injuries sustained. Both lanes of the East-West Arterial are closed between Hirst Road and Chime Street, due to a serious collision. Traffic is being diverted and only local access is permitted.
Details are that shortly after 10:30 am today, 27 March, police and other emergency services were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to Rex Crighton Boulevard, where it was reported that a single-vehicle collision occurred involving one male occupant. The occupant of the vehicle was transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital and was pronounced dead by an attending doctor.
Eyewitness reports are that the driver lost control of the vehicle after swerving. In an attempt to overcorrect the car rolled multiple times and was ejected from it.
Further eyewitness reports indicate he was overtaking the Home Gas vehicle – an essential services vehicle that is allowed to be on the roads during the 24/7 curfew lockdown.
Several residents in the area came out to assist with the incident. This is a developing story and will be updated once more information is available.
