(CMR) Cayman Islands Port Authority staff has been reprimanded for taking time off work to self-quarantine and instead have been seen out in public including local bars and restaurants.
This is according to an email sent by Joseph (Joey) Woods the Acting Port Authority Director earlier this afternoon. The email states that this is “very irresponsible” and the time off was specifically requested because of a recent travel history overseas making them high risk. He stressed that if the behavior continues he will be forced to deduct the time back from vacation allotment and they will be reported to Public Health for further action.
On Friday, Dr. John Lee – the Chief Medical Officer, said that they would be implementing legislation to make self-isolation mandatory and non-compliance a crime with the possibility of a 6-month jail sentence. The government has instructed all returning residents to self-isolate for 14-days when returning from overseas.
