(CMR) The Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands (MEYSAL) has suspended the inter-primary track and field championships final event to be held tomorrow in keeping with COVID-19 control and prevention measures.
The preliminary heats were held earlier today which including student-athletes and officials. However, the gathering of thousands of children, parents, teachers, and guardians is “not in the best interest of the public”.
Minister O'Connor-Connolly added:
“As educators we are also childcare practitioners who have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of our children. Our approach is fully child centered.”
CMR had received some complaints about why the event was going forward.
The Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships is a culmination of all local primary schools (government and private) competing in a variety of athletic games.
CIFEC's career fair in Cayman Brac has also been canceled.
