LETTER TO THE EDITOR
As a past president of the Cayman Islands Music and Entertainment Association (CMEA) and a respected member of the local music fraternity, I have kept silent since the recent election of the current CMEA executive on 12th January 2020 but I can no longer stay quiet as the past president Jean “Eric” Smith “Aka” Mr. Notch continues to parade as the president on social media and radio shows to support himself and his cause.
I recently read an article in the Caymanian Times that stated he (Mr. Notch) and in quote “The MUZAIC Festival is in its twelfth year. Its tenure coincides with the current President’s service, which also spans 12 years. This organization is nearly 40 years old and there was never a calendar event. When I became president, I thought it was important for us to have a time – once-a-year – when we celebrate the accomplishments of our peers and acknowledge the contribution and service of our predecessors,” said Mr. Smith. unquote.
I wish to let the general public know, that this statement is a blatant LIE. MUZAIC was created by Spencer Merren and started during my tenure as president of the CMEA.
If Mr. Notch can lie about something as simple as this, how can his words be trusted in any of the many fabrications of the truth that all of the music fraternity have become accustomed to?
Therefore since Mr. Notch is willing to publicly beat his chest in public about his greatness, I now would like him to answer the following questions publicly.
1. The CMEA constitution states that an Annual General Meeting is to be held annually, therefore in your 12 years as president, there should have been 12 AGM’s . Please advise how many were held by you?
2. The CMEA constitution states that there should be an election of officers annually, therefore in your 12 years as president, there should have been 12 elections. Please advise how many were held by you?
3. The CMEA constitution states that a general meeting is to be held quarterly, therefore in your 12 years as president there should have been 48 General Meetings . Please advise how many were held by you?
4. The CMEA constitution states that financial statements are to be presented annually therefore in your 12 years as president there should have been 12 financial statements presented to the membership. Please advise how many were completed during your leadership?
These are just a few straight forward questions for you to answer, there are a lot more questions that I could ask, but these will do for now. I suspect that you will not be providing me with an answer, but please surprise me, and prove me wrong.
The whole music fraternity is quite aware that the CMEA is dictated by you and only you. Now the whole world needs to know and asking real questions of you and your leadership.
