(CMR) An altercation that ensued at the George Town Hospital's emergency room in the early morning hours has left eyewitnesses wondering if the police used excessive force and assaulted a man in custody. The incident left the man with a bloody face and requiring medical treatment for those injuries.
Eyewitnesses shared that police were observed chocking a man shortly after 3:00 am; which lead to an altercation where he eventually sustained facial injuries that left him bloodied and required further medical treatment. One shared:
“I saw the whole thing. They were treating him rough from when he came to the emergency room. When he went to register at the front desk someone there asked him to pull up his pants because his privates were showing; but the police officer didn't want to do that. The man in custody responded by spitting on the officer's shirt as a result. It happened so fast I was unable to get that part on video.”
Apparently the officer then started “chocking him” and eventually “bust his face”. Onlookers shared that they were surprised at the manner in which the police handled the man. Several persons in the waiting room encouraged one eyewitness to contact CMR about the matter.
