(CMR) In a surprise about-face, the Cayman Compass has decided to keep their roadside vendors after Cayman Marl Road informed the public that they would be ceasing that service. They were initially informed on Friday that the local print newspaper would no longer be selling the paper on the roadside. However, public outcry on social media may have played a convincing part in the 180 decision.
Commuters will not miss a beat as the vendors return to their post first thing Monday morning. Many shared that they enjoyed seeing the women selling papers in the morning and that brought a sense of enjoyment to their morning commute.
Many were surprised by the decision with some not understand why it would be done. CMR understands now that the payment arrangement will now be different with the Compass taking a percentage of the money collected instead of allowing the roadside vendors to keep the full amount.
