(CMR) The Shipping and Trading Association of the Cayman Islands (WISTA Cayman Islands) will be hosting the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association – Annual Conference 2019 next week.
The event will be held at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on 31 October 2019 to 1 November 2019. The theme this year is befitting of the venue will be “Founded Upon the Seas”. It is a nod to Cayman's great seafaring heritage.
WISTA Cayman Islands is a part of the global Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA International) network, a global organisation connecting female executives and decision makers around the world. WISTA International serves as a connector for its network of more than 3,000 female professionals from all sectors of the maritime industry.
WISTA International promotes increased competency and diversity throughout the maritime sector. Forty-six countries support a National WISTA Association (NWA), each of which in turn is a member of and is guided by WISTA International. NWAs provide in-country and regional networking, business and skill building opportunities, corporate visibility, and also facilitate relationships within the industry.
In keeping with the World Maritime Day Theme for 2019, “Empowering Women in the Maritime Community”, they hope to be able to contribute to the discussion for increasing capacity in the industry. WISTA’s efforts support the overarching principles in IMO’s Strategic Plan, especially the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
As a first time host the Cayman conference is expecting approximately 250 women in management positions to attend from the global maritime industry. The conference program will include a combination of international and domestic speakers, panel discussions, workshops, evening networking socials and exhibition booths and will include topics such as IMO GloFouling Partnerships, Business Negotiation in a Global World, Empowering Women in the Maritime Community – Diversity and Gender Bias, Technology, the Digital World, Autonomous Ships and Cyber Security and Environmental Challenge, IMO 2020 and beyond, Greenhouse Gases, MARPOL and Ballast Water.
