(CMR) A white 1998 Honda CRV was stolen this morning shortly before 7:00 am at an address on Omega Drive in Prospect, George Town.
The brazen daytime theft has shocked many persons in the community and has others wondering if the thief has a Honda master key.
The male suspect was observed on CCTV footage walking on Omega Drive towards Bamboo Street, walking past the entrance to the home. He then doubled back with his hands in his pocket, opened the car door and quickly drove off. All within 20 seconds!
The license plate on the vehicle is 142 130. The suspect is described as being “a young dark male approximately 16-20 years old”. He can be seen on camera wearing a white t-shirt, dark knee-length shorts with a white patter and dark ankle socks with slippers.
Residents in the area are being asked to check their cameras to see if they may have gotten any footage of him as well.
Should anyone have any information on this matter they are encouraged to contact the RCIPS or CrimeStoppers.
The Prospect residents shared that he was so shocked at how brazen this thief was:
This happened in the early morning hours of a very busy day with kids returning to school. It's hard to believe that he would just come and take this vehicle as though he was the owner.
A Honda expert has indicated that they don't necessarily need a master key for older vehicles because they could have cut a key for the vehicle based on the door lock itself.
They further clarified that there really is no “master key”. The manufacturer doesn't have such a key. They explained that's why people used to have vehicle steering wheel locks for their cars.
