Triple C School failing students

(CMR) Triple C School's inspectorate report has been received and according to the report, the school is failing. The Christian school student body is 70% Caymanian with staff compliments being 50% Caymanian.

The overall performance of the school is considered weak – the lowest possible score – making it a failing private school; despite the fact that parents think their children are advancing well. For the most part, only 2% of parents believed the school was failing their children.

This weak status means that the school will be subjected to a second inspection within 6 months. The last inspection was done some 13 years ago and CMR sources indicate that it was considered a weak school at that time also.

There are 4 possible levels on the inspection scale. Weak is the lowest and is defined as:

Weak– quality not yet at the level acceptable for schools in The Cayman Islands. Schools will be expected to take urgent measures to improve the quality of any aspect of their performance or practice that is judged at this level.

The school only received good marks in two key areas:

1. Positive attitudes towards learning among students

2. Links with the parents and community

All other indicators were either weak or satisfactory. The curriculum and teaching were largely weak and the school administrative structure was found to be flawed:

“Leadership was weak overall. The leadership team was comprised of the principal and two vice principals. There were no leadership roles allocated beyond the senior leadership team and most decisions were made by the Principal. There was no systematic analysis of the school’s performance. The current leadership structure did not support the school’s capacity to improve. “

Triple C School is a Christian school that caters to students from pre-school (3-4 years) to Grade 12 (17-18 years). The school is a private school administered by the Church of God Chapels in the Cayman Islands. Triple C School was established in 1941 as the first school in Grand Cayman to offer both primary and secondary education. Triple C School recently sought to renew accreditation from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS).
