(CMR) According to CNN James Mason, the former manager for singer R. Kelly, surrendered to authorities in Georgia on Friday, law enforcement officials tell CNN.
R. Kelly has also been dropped by Sony Music and RCA after decades of sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Mason was wanted on outstanding warrant issued over the summer, according to Keith McBrayer, spokesman for the Henry County Sheriff's office. He is accused of threatening the father of Joycelyn Savage, one of the women featured in the Lifetime docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.”
The incident, which allegedly took place in May 2018, was reported by Timothy Savage to Henry County police. Savage claims his daughter is being held against her will by Kelly and Mason threatened him for speaking out about it.
“My team and I will present facts soon that will discredit any and all accusations that suggest that I have engaged in any acts of bullying, harassment, or aggressive acts against my accusers,” Mason said in a statement obtained by CNN. “To the contrary, We will show that I have been extremely instrumental in attempts to assist my accusers in their quest to re establish a relationship with their adult daughter. I have confidence in my legal team that I will be exonerated of all pending charges.”
In an incident report obtained by CNN, Timothy Savage stated that Mason said,
“I'm gonna do harm to you and your family, when I see you I'm gonna get you, I'm going to f***ing kill you.”
Kelly, once one of the biggest and most influential stars in pop music, has been dogged by accusations of sexual misconduct since the mid 1990s, when he was sued by women who said that he had engaged in sexual activity with them when they were as young as 15.
In 2002, he was charged with 21 counts of child pornography over a videotape that prosecutors alleged showed him having sex with a 14-year-old girl. But he was acquitted of all charges in 2008, after the young woman said to be on the tape would not testify.
Even as those and other accusations mounted against him, Kelly continued to have a high-profile career, collaborating with other stars including Jay-Z, Lady Gaga and Chance the Rapper. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, he has sold at least 32 million albums in the United States alone.
