(CMR): Nadia Miranda Powery, a Bodden Town resident, pleaded guilty Friday to stealing over US$400,000 from her former employer, Cayman Villas.
Powery also pleaded guilty to forgery and obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception between November 2015 and December 2016; when she worked there as an accounts administrator for the real estate management company. It is alleged that she stole the money in part by forging cheques made out to herself as well as taking cash.
With Powery’s travel documents already surrendered to the court, the crown accepted a $10,000 surety and did not object to bail until sentencing. She is expected to face jail time given the amount involved.
There is an additional charge; a seveneth count of theft that is still pending and awaiting a plea due to an administrative error.
Powery is due back in court for sentencing on Jan. 25.
Powery had listed a job as a Senior Accountant at Luxury Cayman Villas on LinkedIn but has since removed her social media profiles. In January 2014 Powery worked as a Digicel Business Sales Executive. Previous to that she worked at the Westin Resort and is originally from the district of West Bay.
Powery has a BA in Marketing from Florida University and at the time highlighted her eight years B2B sales experience. We understand she has four children and also once went by the name Nadia Mirinda Dalley.
