(CMR) As concerns grow over the security breach at the Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) Cayman Marl Road also revealed yesterday that the Chief Security Officer, Shane Bothwell resigned about a month ago.
Exclusive CMR sources indicate that he will be taken up the Security and Operations Manager post at Cayman Islands Credit Union; recently made vacant by Robert Scotland.
There has been no official confirmation or statement about the high-level of resignation. The trespasser was successfully arrested after his second attempt to enter the airport.
Many persons appeared to be surprised at the news that Bothwell was no longer at the Cayman Islands Airport Authority (CIAA) after almost 9 years.
Bothwell has a long history of law enforcement and security work experience after serving in both the US Army and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.
During his tenure at the CIAA, he spearheaded several enhanced security measures to be more in line with international standards.
The community is continuing to comment on the story about the security breach and what the possible implications could have been. Some persons were highly critical of the lack of local security officers employed at the airport. One person suggested that to some it's just a job and they have no real vested interest in securing our borders as foreign workers:
The article garnished a lot of social media comments with some initially questioning the authenticity of the story itself. A few commented that maybe it was simply a security audit by the contracted security company:
