(CMR) South Sound's million dollar boardwalk is already damaged and causing people to stop in awe.
A tipster notified Cayman Marl Road this morning that they were shocked to see a portion of the boardwalk had been quartered off and damaged. As CMR‘s reporter was on site it was a shocking sight for others was well.
One pedestrian who lives in the area indicated she thought it was a complete waste of money and a real shame that after all that part of it now is in shambles.
Another person remarked:
“Imagine it's already falling apart – what will happen with the first storm?”
The 1,500 foot-long boardwalk cost an estimated CI$1.3 million and took about 9 months to complete according to the Ministry of Commerce, Planning and Infrastructure. It was delayed by several months and called “robust construction” by the ministry. They said:
“The construction of the boardwalk had to be robust because of its proximity to the sea and the natural undulation of the beach ridge
UPDATE: The boardwalk was damaged Wednesday when a truck ran over it and broke a section. PWD have investigated the matter and repairs will commence in short order.
The government has confirmed that the responsible party has agreed to cover the cost of the repairs and work will begin imminently.
