(CMR) Leandro Solomon (28) has now been arrested for indecent exposure and indecent assault after a viral video of him was widely circulated on social media yesterday.
Cayman Marl Road first carried the story yesterday afternoon after the video was removed from our Facebook page. Many persons appeared to question the authenticity of the video or if the victim was truly afraid for her safety.
Our correspondent reporter was outraged by the general response and shared the following with us:
“Here we are in 2018 still questioning if the victim who was accosted by this alleged pervert responded appropriately.
What exactly is the appropriate response in a situation like this? We only saw a small snippet of the what happened to her. It's truly amazing that people are all to happy to question the victim and what she's doing as opposed to what this guy was doing in public.
This mentality that the burden is always on the victim to act a certain way that we have pre-determined is right or wrong needs to stop. A victim will do whatever is necessary to survive and get out of a situation as quickly as possible.”
Police received a report yesterday morning of an assault which had taken place earlier in the morning and by mid-day the incident was well known by many in social media circles.
A woman had been walking along South Church Street when she was approached by a male who was not known to her. The male made advances to her and began following her, refusing to leave her alone and eventually making unwanted physical contact.
The male then indecently exposed himself to her, and continued to follow her. She yelled to the male to leave her alone, knocked on the doors of a nearby apartment complex for assistance, and filmed his actions with a cell phone camera. Eventually the male left the area. The video of the male was subsequently circulated on social media.
Solomon was arrested last night on suspicion of indecent exposure and indecent assault on a female in connection with this incident. He remains in police custody.
We understand the woman is new to our island and was extremely shaken up by her ordeal and is now considering leaving the Cayman Islands after the response of many on Facebook.
Solomon appears to have found the matter comical after making several posts on his various social media platforms making fun of the situation. Here are two that he shared afterwards:

Cayman Marl Road also received several reports that Solomon was engaging in similar behavior on Saturday night at a local bar. In that instance, he was asked to leave as he had been previously banned from that establishment for lewd behavior. Police attended the scene and spoke to the business owner and Solomon; but did not make an arrest – leaving him to roam the streets and commit another alleged offense the following day.
