(CMR) The Royal Cayman Islands Police have issued a statement confirming that a special team of detectives has been assembled to fully investigate the attempted abduction of a 7-year-old child on Saturday.
Given the instance of several recent reports of men acting sexually inappropriately in public the police are now launching a cohesive investigation into these allegations.
Expressing grave concern that a sexual predator may be on the loose they have also now advised that there were other reports of men acting suspiciously around children. As reported previously, on February 8, a man was seen inappropriately touching himself as he watched children play at the Dart Part in South Sound. Read more here. Several days before that a 51-year-old man was arrested for sexually touching children in the water at Smith's Cove.
The police have demonstrated their committed to finding this person noting:
“We do not know that these incidents are linked, but the incident on Saturday is very serious and we must warn the community that we believe a sexual predator may be at large, mostly likely in West Bay. “Children are the most vulnerable members of society and deserve everything we can do together to keep them safe, and our trained detectives in MASH are ensuring all safeguarding measures are in place for the child involved,”
said Commissioner of Police Derek Byrne.
The police have encouraged anyone with information to please contact them at the West Bay Police Station on 949-3999.
