Some five months after initially being arrested for smuggling a marsupial “sugar glider” into the Cayman Islands Jimel McLean and Sabrina Walton have been formally charged.
McLean, 31, is charged with importing a live animal without a license and importing a biological product without a license. Walton , 26, is only charged with importing a live animal without a license.
They appeared in Summary Court Wednesday where they were charged and returned on Thursday for an administrative hearing before Magistrate Valdis Foldats. McLean is the son of East End MLA Arden McLean and Sabrina Walton are scheduled to return to court on November 30th.
The allegation is that they smuggled in this sugar glider that then got loose on a Cayman Airways flight.
People in the community were beginning to question the outcome of this case after bail was extended last month for a fifth time. There is no unconfirmed information on the fate of other animals apparently found at the residence of the parties.
