(CMR) Local defense lawyer, Steve McField, has asked the court to remove him from representing controversial client convicted child molester Errington Webster in court this morning.
In an unusual turn of events, it appears that McField no longer wishes to represent his client claiming lack of payment. However, back in June he spent over two and a half hours summarizing this client's defense which included accusing the child victim of lying and blackmailing his client.
Apparently, he now no longer wishes to continue to represent Webster and claims that
Even if they paid me a million dollars I would not stay in the case
Apparently, an agreed upon payment plan has not been adhered to and now Webster will apply for legal aid. McField informed the court that he had heard they were not satisfied with the outcome of the case and that may be the real reason why payment was not being made.
Despite the non-payment issues McField claimed in court that he was withdrawing for “ethical reasons”. He stated the relationship between his client and the family had broken down because they did not get the results they wanted.

Webster was found guilty in late June of indecent assault and gross indecency and is awaiting sentencing. However, this sentencing hearing has been postponed multiple times now.
