Bodden Town West MLA, Chris Saunders, is hoping to get children in his district off on the right foot by ensuring they have some of the basic necessities for the school year!
In a back to school drive, he has supplied at least 100 kits for children based on an expression of need from parents in the community. Saunders wanted to make sure that the kits included useful items that children needed for the upcoming school year and also that those with the most need were the ones who received the kits.
He noted that “Addressing the higher cost of living requires various approaches and as a parent with three school-aged children, I know first-hand how expensive preparing for “back-to-school” can be. One idea that I very much support is a caring and sharing community or what we in Cayman call “looking out for each other.”
Saunders offered the kits at no charge to children in BTW as a back to school incentive for those who needed them most based on the feedback and request he received after sending out a WhatsApp message to many in his contingency. Parents were able to contact him directly for free delivery.
His efforts are not restricted to just school bags. Apparently Saunders has been working diligently on some new initiatives to ensure that those who are attending college can explore various financing options including a small monetary stipend from his office. He further shared, “I am pleased to announce that I have secured pledges from individuals within our community to offer greater assistance to parents whose children are going off to study or entering tertiary education.”
He did remind people that resources are limited and support will be provided on a first come first serve basis in order of priority and support required. So those who are in need must act swiftly.
His commitment to helping children with their educational needs is supported by his vision of understanding the importance of children and their long term impact on our community. He noted, “I see our children as an investment, and as your servant and your representative, I am fully committed to securing their education.”
